798 Launches Invitation to Jointly Create an Global Art Destination


On April 3th, the grand mural "The Tree of World Cultures" was unveiled at the 798 Art District, which is presented jointly by 798 and the Dutch international art group known as "Toyism". Concurrently, 798 officially announced the "798 Global Art Site-Specific Partnership", extending an invitation to artists worldwide for art Co-creation in this global art destination, showcasing a diverse insight of global cultural and artistic expressions.

In the past two years, with the backing of government support at various levels, the 798 Art District has undergone extensive upgrades across multiple facets, including its landscape features, public spaces, and property services. Following a strategic reconfiguration of its business model, spatial layout, and industrial focus, the pedestrian area of the 798 Art District has expanded to nearly 100,000 square meters, with the addition of seven major public square, thereby offering enhanced venues for the display and appreciation of cultural and artistic endeavors. In a similar vein, 798 Art District has also refreshed its iconic Great Graffiti Wall, collaborating with the international digital art group "Universal Everything" to create a large-scale mural.

The philosophy of "Turn space into art, and give art space." has been a guiding principle in 798 Art District's development. Over the past year, more than 20 new art institutions have established their presence in the 798 Art Zone, such as the White Stone Gallery, Eslite Gallery, and the Bornian Art Space, with numerous other high-quality art organizations in the pipeline to join the community. 798 hosts over 400 exhibitions annually, complemented by a calendar brimming with over 1,000 cultural and artistic events, including guided tours, lectures, and workshops. This concentration of artistic enterprises and the palpable artistic ambiance have not only drawn art institutions to 798 but also captivated global visitors. According to data, in 2023, the 798 Art District welcomed nearly 11 million visitors, setting a new historical record.


As a significant art destination for international visitors in Beijing, the 798 Art District serves as a showcase for Chinese culture to the world and a dynamic platform for global cultural and artistic exchange. This year, 798 will further its commitment to fostering international connections by launching the "International Art Season". This initiative aims to use art as a channel for artists worldwide to engage in interactive dialogues and collaborative endeavors. It aspires to make space for global artistic talent and resources through localized exchanges, deepening mutual understanding between China and the international community.
