798 Art District is located in the factory areas of the former state-owned 798 factory and other electronics factories, which was built by Germany in the 1950s. Today, it has transformed into a hub of artistic innovation, spanning over 500,000 square meters (123.5 acres), with the iconic Bauhaus architecture alone covering more than 70,000 square meters (17.3 acres).
The community is home to over 600 institutions across a wide range of fields, including art, film and theater, media, technology, fashion, architecture, entertainment, and cultural dining. Nearly 80% of these institutions are dedicated to cultural and creative industries, encompassing national cultural communication centers, international cultural and art organizations from 19 countries and regions, as well as renowned institutions blending traditional and contemporary Chinese art. The community also hosts nearly 100 prominent artist studios from both domestic and international circles.
Each year, 798 Art District hosts thousands of cultural and art events, solidifying its status as the largest cultural industry cluster in China focused on art. In 2024, according to the latest statistics, 798 attracted over 12 million visitors, setting a new historical record.
